Haason Reddickâs continued Jets holdout giving Will McDonald a bigger chance
Haason Reddickâs holdout is getting costly â both in monetary terms and, potentially, in terms of playing time.
Jets coach Robert Saleh didnât answer whether the defensive endâs training camp absence, which reached 11 days on Monday, might eventually impact his role or playing time, painting it as a wait-and-see situation.
âI donât know,â Saleh said. âCause thereâs examples of players like Aaron Donald, Chris Jones a couple years ago didnât show up until Week 1. They did just fine.â

Pointedly, Will McDonald â who is getting snaps that would otherwise go to Reddick on the edge â picked up a sack during Mondayâs practice.
Reddickâs overall fine is up to at least $550,000, as heâs docked $50,000 daily.
It could approach $1 million if the Jets impose a bonus forfeiture on top of that, which Saleh has said he expects theyâll do.
The Jets offered Reddick an extension that would have increased his salary from $14.25 million this season before completing the deal that brought him to New York, The Postâs Brian Costello reported.
Reddick declined.

âI guess it doesnât matter what I thought at the time,â said Saleh, when asked if he ever thought Haasonâs holdout would be a possibility. âReality is heâs not here, but there are a bunch of guys who are, who are working their tails off. Will McDonald is getting a lot of reps that he otherwise wouldnât have gotten. Heâs improving every day.â
The Jetsâ policy is not to negotiate with a player who is not in camp, which means they will not talk to Reddick until he shows up.
So at least for now, the standoff continues.
Saleh said the Jets have yet to decide how much the first team will feature in the preseason opener against the Commanders on Saturday, if at all.
Tyron Smith missed a second straight practice with what Saleh called âtightnessâ in a lower extremity, but is expected to be on the field Tuesday.
Saleh said that Olu Fashanu will likely get snaps on the right side of the offensive line at some point before the end of camp.
Fashanu has played exclusively on the left so far.
