Cause of Super Bowl hero Jacoby Jones’ death at 40 revealed
Ex-NFLer Jacoby Jones died due to hypertensive cardiovascular disease, according to multiple reports.
The 40-year-old, who won a Super Bowl with the Ravens in 2013, was found dead in his New Orleans home on July 14.
His death was listed as natural.
Jones played nine NFL seasons as a receiver and kick returner, including stops with the Texans, Ravens, Steelers and Chargers after being a third-round pick by Houston out of Lane College in 2007.

“Just extending my sincere condolences to the Jones family,” Texans coach DeMeco Ryans said at the start of training camp. “Jacoby was a teammate of mine here for five years. When you talk about a guy who was fun spirited, loving, caring, great teammate, the dance machine, he was a fun guy to be around.
“He lit up any room that he walked into just with his great spirit. He’ll be truly missed. I was very saddened to hear the news of him passing. Just truly feel sorry for the family and for all of his teammates, all the lives that he has touched. Jacoby, I remember he always did a great job of working in camps and working with kids. He always did an excellent job of doing that. He’ll be missed.”
Jones turned in perhaps the biggest game of his career in the 2013 Super Bowl, reeling in a 56-yard touchdown catch and adding a 108-yard kickoff return for a score in Baltimore’s 34-31 win over the 49ers.
It came on the heels of a season in which he posted 30 receptions for 406 yards and a touchdown along with 1,167 yards and two scores as a kick returner — netting him All-Pro and Pro Bowl honors.
He finished his career after the 2015 season — inking a one-day contract in 2017 to retire as a Raven — with 2,733 receiving yards and 14 TDs on 203 catches, with an additional 4,940 kick return yards and five trips to the end zone.

“My brother! I thank God for the memories and your impact on this world,” Torrey Smith, Jones’ teammate on the Ravens, wrote on X. “You were 1 of 1 ! Your play on the field and jokes will live on forever! We have Momma Jones a Lil Coby’s back for life!
“This one hurt me man! We are going to miss you! Love you bro!”
