Even more updates coming to Spirit Airlines after major seat policy change: ‘A new era’

Spirit Airlines is flying high after revealing its new seating policy.

The low-cost carrier that has become synonymous with budget air travel is known for charging passengers for nearly every perk — but that’s about to change.

Spirit announced Tuesday that there will be “new premium offerings” starting August 2024, including free Wi-Fi, a free checked bag and even free snacks.

This comes after another announcement that other lower-priced options will now offer business-class seats with a guaranteed blocked middle seat.

The new fares and categories of service are called “Go,” “Go Savvy,” “Go Comfy” and “Go Big,” and they will be available to book on Aug. 16 with a launch on flights starting Aug. 27.

All four options allow for the flexibility of no change or cancellation fees. Here’s what each includes:

  • “Go” is essentially Spirit Airlines as it is right now. It offers “the greatest affordability,” including just a seat with extra fees to purchase checked bags, standard seat selection, Wi-Fi, snacks and beverages.
  • “Go Savvy” comes with the choice of either one carry-on bag or one checked bag included and standard seat selection during booking.
  • “Go Comfy” is a brand-new option offering a seat with standard legroom and a guaranteed blocked middle seat, one carry-on bag, one checked bag, priority boarding, plus a snack and non-alcoholic beverage.
  • “Go Big” is the top tier option and includes one of the airline’s Big Front Seats — a wider seat with extra legroom, additional seat cushioning and no middle seat — one carry-on bag, one checked bag, priority check-in and boarding, streaming access through Wi-Fi, as well as snacks and drinks, including alcoholic beverages.

“We’re unveiling a new era in Spirit’s history and taking low-fare travel to new heights with enhanced options that are unlike anything we’ve offered before,” Ted Christie, Spirit’s President and Chief Executive Officer, said in a statement.

“We listened to our guests and are excited to deliver what they want: choices for an elevated experience that are affordable and provide unparalleled value.”
