White Sox fire Pedro Grifol with club at rock bottom
The White Sox are finally moving on from their manager.
Mired in an absolutely miserable season, Chicago fired Pedro Grifol on Thursday morning as the team sits at 28-89 and 36.5 games out of a playoff spot.
Grifol, 54, led the club to a 61-101 record last year in his first season on the south side.
“As we all recognize, our team’s performance this season has been disappointing on many levels,” White Sox general manager Chris Getz said in a statement. “Despite the on-field struggles and lack of success, we appreciate the effort and professionalism Pedro and the staff brought to the ballpark every day.

“These two seasons have been very challenging. Unfortunately, the results were not there, and a change is necessary as we look to our future and the development of a new energy around the team.”
The White Sox recently tied the American League record with 21 consecutive losses before defeating the Oakland A’s on Tuesday.
