Colin Jost exits Paris Olympics correspondent job in Tahiti after foot injury, infections

Working for the Olympics is no laughing matter.

Colin Jost is done covering the Olympics surfing competition in Tahiti after getting injured and developing multiple infections on the job, Deadline reported on Monday.

Jost’s correspondent gig for NBC was “always supposed to be short term,” per Deadline, so it’s unclear if his exit is solely due to his health woes.

The 42-year-old comedian cut his foot on a coral reef and later developed a staph infection and an ear infection.

He’s been replaced by Australian weather anchor Luke Bradnam, who was already in Tahiti covering the Olympics.

The Post has reached out to Jost’s rep for comment.

Jost’s struggles in Tahiti started last month when he injured his foot after hitting the reef.

He posted a picture of his bandaged and bloodied wounds via social media on July 29.

“You know it’s going great when you’ve been to the Olympic medical tent more than any of the athletes,” he wrote in his caption.

On July 30, Jost revealed that he got an ear infection, on top of already having a staph infection.

“I woke up this morning and discovered that I had added ear infection to my growing list of ailments,” he said in an interview from the pool in Tahiti.

“So I’m now on three different medications — four if you count piña coladas,” the “Saturday Night Live” star jokingly added

He also said that doctors told him he can’t get his foot or his head wet.

Earlier this week, Jost filmed in Tahiti before the surfing semifinals and finals, which were delayed because of small surf conditions.

“Rumors of my death have been greatly exaggerated,” he wrote alongside the video. “Semis and finals of Olympic surfing happening right now in Tahiti. At the Wall of Skulls.”

Bradnam admitted that he didn’t know who Jost was when they met in Tahiti before he took over his job.

“I said to one of the officials ‘Who’s that?,’ and she goes, ‘You know who he is,’ ” Bradnam recalled in an interview with Reuters on Sunday.

“And I go, ‘I don’t know.’ She goes, ‘He’s married to Scarlett Johansson. He’s from ‘Saturday Night Live.’ “

While Jost was working in Tahiti, it was announced that he will host the “Jeopardy!” pop culture-themed spinoff show on Amazon Prime Video.

“What is: I’m excited,” he said in a press release to confirm the news.

“Colin’s sharp wit and intelligence epitomize ‘Pop Culture Jeopardy!,’” Suzanne Prete, the president of game shows at Sony Pictures Television, said in a statement.

“He’s smart and quick, like our contestants, and we know he’ll be able to keep up with them while making this new series his own,” Prete added. “We could not be happier that he is joining us for this new journey.”

Fans had mixed reactions to Jost landing the hosting job. Some thought the “SNL” star was the perfect fit for the role, while others complained the pick was “disappointing.”
